Provenance

Where it came from

Open the Vaults was originally released in the 2009 set Shards of Alara, serving as a powerful rare enchantment that reflects the set's focus on artifact-heavy themes. The card was designed to provide a symmetrical board-wide effect, allowing players to return all artifacts and enchantments from their graveyard to the battlefield, often resulting in complex and explosive late-game board states.

The Double Masters printing, released in 2020, features updated artwork by artist Johannes Voss. As part of a set specifically curated for high-value reprints and expanded aesthetic variety, this version employs a sleek, modern visual style consistent with the premium nature of the Double Masters compilation. The card remains a staple in casual Commander formats, valued for its ability to enable massive resource recovery.
