Where it came from
Open the Vaults is a rare enchantment card released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Fallout Commander set in 2024. The card was designed to mechanically represent the iconic narrative conceit of the Fallout franchise, allowing players to return all artifacts and enchantments from their graveyard to the battlefield, echoing the thematic moment of opening a vault to reveal long-stored technology and resources.
The card features distinct illustrative work that leans into the retro-futuristic aesthetic synonymous with the Fallout series. By utilizing a vibrant, industrial art style, the illustrators aimed to capture the sense of wonder and technical reclamation central to the series' lore. Upon its release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its high-impact synergy in artifact-heavy deck builds, quickly becoming a staple for players looking to recover board presence.
