Orzhova was originally introduced as a plane card in the 2009 Planechase release, representing the seat of power for the Orzhov Syndicate on the plane of Ravnica. As a central location in the city-world, it was designed to reflect the gothic, hierarchical, and debt-driven nature of the syndicate. The artwork by Charles Urbach captures the oppressive, cathedral-like architecture of the location, emphasizing the heavy shadows and ecclesiastical imagery that define the Orzhov aesthetic within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.

This specific iteration, card number 60, was included in the 2016 Planechase Anthology, a boxed set that reissued iconic plane cards from the game's history. The set was produced to provide players with a curated collection of legacy plane cards, allowing them to engage with the unique 'planeswalking' gameplay variant introduced years earlier. Like the original, this version maintains the familiar Orzhov iconography, serving as a functional piece of game mechanics while simultaneously acting as an atmospheric exploration of the plane of Ravnica.
