Where it came from
Overpowering Attack is a card from the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' set themed around the Assassin's Creed franchise, released in 2024. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Ubisoft aimed to integrate the iconic stealth, parkour, and historical narrative elements of the video game series into the established mechanics of the trading card game. The design team focused on capturing the visceral nature of the games' combat, translating the character's ability to overwhelm foes into the game's turn-based system.
The artwork for the card leans into the series' signature aesthetic, emphasizing the protagonist's lethal efficiency and the historical settings central to the games. As part of a direct-to-modern-set release, the card was received as a functional addition to Red-aligned aggressive decks, specifically those leveraging combat tricks and creature-buffing strategies. It serves as a bridge for players who appreciate the tactical lore of the Creed alongside the strategic depth of the card game.
