Where it came from
Over My Dead Bodies was originally released as a rare enchantment in the 2004 Magic: The Gathering set Champions of Kamigawa. Designed by Brian Tinsman, the card was intended to capture the flavor of the Kamigawa plane's spirit-heavy folklore, where the boundary between the living and the dead was intentionally blurred. The mechanics allow creatures to attack as if they had haste if they were cast from a graveyard, reflecting a thematic resurgence of spirits returning to the battlefield.
This specific iteration, numbered 23 in The List (Unfinity Foil Edition), serves as a curated reprint designed to bring older, mechanically unique cards to a modern audience. By including it in the Unfinity foil update, Wizards of the Coast highlighted the card’s niche but beloved utility in graveyard-focused deck building. While the original set received mixed reactions for its complex mechanics, the card itself remains a classic example of the unique, high-concept design space that defined the Kamigawa block.
