Overwhelming Stampede

Overwhelming Stampede was released in July 2010 as part of the Magic 2011 core set, a collection intended to refresh the foundational mechanics and flavor of the game for new and returning players. As a rare sorcery, the card was designed to serve as a powerful finisher for green-aligned decks, embodying the color's philosophy of growth and massive creature-based combat. Its mechanical intent is to translate the strength of a player's existing board state into an immediate, game-ending attack.

The artwork was commissioned from Steven Belledin, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise. Belledin sought to visually capture the chaotic, unstoppable momentum of a natural force, depicting a thundering migration that overwhelms the landscape. The design was received by the player community as a quintessential 'green bomb'—a card that, while expensive to cast, provides a definitive tactical advantage in the late stages of a match.
