Where it came from
Ovika, Enigma Goliath was released in early 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Phyrexia: All Will Be One. This card depicts a massive, chimeric horror constructed from the wreckage of the Mirran resistance during the Phyrexian invasion of their home plane. It was designed as a marquee creature for the set's commander-focused offerings, representing the grotesque synthesis of biological flesh and metallic Phyrexian oil.
The illustration was crafted by artist Fajareka Setiawan, who utilized a vivid, unsettling color palette to emphasize the creature's immense scale and chaotic, multi-limbed physiology. Within the game's mechanics, the card is noted for its high mana cost and its ability to turn noncreature spells into a swarm of tokens, reflecting the lore-based concept of Ovika manifesting progeny from the raw energy of its magical enactments.
