Where it came from
Ovika, Enigma Goliath was released in early 2023 as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The card depicts a massive, chimeric creature born from the corrupting influence of the Phyrexians, serving as an embodiment of their synthetic-biological perfection. It was designed to function as a powerful centerpiece for Commander formats, rewarding players for casting noncreature spells by creating an army of Phyrexian tokens.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a striking, dark aesthetic to capture the imposing nature of the goliath. The design emphasizes the fusion of organic limbs and metallic plating, a hallmark of the New Phyrexian visual style. Upon its release, the card was widely received by the community as a compelling build-around commander, noted for its high mana cost balanced by its explosive potential to flood the board with tokens.
