Paradox Haze

Paradox Haze was released in 2006 as part of the Time Spiral expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed by Wizards of the Coast as a nostalgic retrospective, heavily featuring mechanics and themes from the game's earliest years to celebrate its history. The card was specifically crafted to introduce the 'upkeep' mechanic to the modern era, creating a unique enchantment that forces a player to undergo their upkeep phase twice during each turn.

The card's illustration was created by artist Dan Dos Santos, who aimed to evoke a sense of temporal distortion and ethereal confusion. The visual design depicts a surreal, swirling environment that aligns with the set's focus on fractured timelines and the shifting nature of the game's past. Upon its release, the card became a staple in niche strategy circles, particularly among players who enjoyed building decks around cumulative upkeep effects or other turn-based triggers.
