Where it came from
Parallel Lives was originally released in the 2011 set Innistrad, designed as a rare enchantment that doubles the number of tokens a player creates. It emerged from a thematic block centered on gothic horror and classic folklore, intended to provide a powerful engine for decks built around creature generation. The card quickly became a staple in the Commander format due to its ability to exponentially increase board presence, leading to its inclusion in the Enchanting Tales bonus sheet for the 2023 set Wilds of Eldraine.
The Enchanting Tales version, numbered 83, features new artwork by artist Fiona Hsieh. This iteration was part of a special subset within Wilds of Eldraine that showcased iconic enchantment cards from throughout Magic: The Gathering's history, reimagined with art styles inspired by the storybook aesthetic of the Eldraine plane. The release was well-received by players for its thematic cohesion and the inclusion of high-demand cards with updated, artistic frames that honored the fairy-tale roots of the set.
