Provenance

Where it came from

The Parallel Lives card, numbered 36 in the 1994 Marvel Universe Series 5 trading card set produced by SkyBox International, emerged during the height of the 1990s comic book card collecting boom. This set was designed to capture the complex, interconnected narratives of the Marvel multiverse, utilizing high-quality foil stamping and detailed character portraiture that defined the era's premium trading card aesthetic.

The artwork for this specific card explores the mirroring themes between iconic Marvel characters, a common thematic device used by Marvel editors to highlight character development. The card was received by collectors as a staple of the Series 5 base set, appreciated for its contribution to the era’s trend of using trading cards as a vehicle for visual storytelling rather than simple character identification.
