Where it came from
Patron of the Nezumi first appeared in the 2004 Saviors of Kamigawa expansion, a set deeply rooted in Japanese folklore and the aesthetic traditions of the Sengoku period. The card represents the Nezumi, a race of rat-folk central to the Kamigawa storyline, reflecting the thematic focus on sacrifice and darkness that defined the black-aligned cards of that era.
This specific printing originates from the 2018 Commander Anthology Volume II, a curated collection designed to provide players with access to popular legendary creatures and utility cards from previous years. The artwork, originally rendered by artist Kev Walker, captures the menacing essence of the Patron with his signature gritty, detailed style that has made him a staple illustrator within the game's history.
