Patron of the Valiant first appeared in the Magic: The Gathering set Magic Origins, released in 2015, and has since been reprinted in the Foundations Jumpstart set. Designed as an uncommon creature, the card features the 'bolster' mechanic, which was introduced in the Fate Reforged set to mechanically represent the defensive and strengthening nature of the Abzan Houses on the plane of Tarkir.
