Provenance

Where it came from

The Pentavite token was introduced as part of the Magic 2012 core set, released by Wizards of the Coast in July 2011. It was designed to represent the flying construct creatures created by the artifact card Pentavus, which was reprinted in the same set. The token serves as a physical play aid to help players track the number of creatures currently on the battlefield during games of Magic: The Gathering.

The artwork for this token was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to maintain the visual consistency of the set's artifact creatures. Illustrated by Nils Hamm, the design captures the clockwork and mechanical aesthetic typical of high-fantasy artifact constructs. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its utility and clean presentation, helping to standardize the use of official tokens in tournament play.
