Provenance

Where it came from

The Phyrexian Germ token was released in 2023 as part of the March of the Machine Commander set. These tokens are designed to represent the 'Living Weapon' mechanic, where the Germ creature enters the battlefield equipped by an Artifact card. The token serves as the physical body for the equipment, reflecting the grim, biomechanical aesthetic of the New Phyrexian faction within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.

This specific iteration features artwork consistent with the set's portrayal of the Phyrexians' corrupted vision of perfection. The design emphasizes the unsettling, biological-machine fusion that defines the faction, intended to be both functional for gameplay and thematic to the storyline of the Phyrexians' multi-planar invasion. It was received as a standard utility token for players utilizing Equipment-heavy decks or Reconfigure strategies.
