What it does
Flying
Rot Fly — If an opponent would gain life, that player loses that much life instead.
High-ranking plaguebearers of Nurgle's realm ride into realspace mounted upon Rot Flies—colossal daemonic insects whose appearance is so repugnant it scars the mind.

Where it came from
The Plague Drone card was released as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander deck series for Magic: The Gathering in 2022. This crossover set, known as Universes Beyond, integrated the grimdark aesthetic of Games Workshop's sci-fi tabletop universe into the mechanics of Magic. Designed to represent the corrupted technology of the Death Guard, the card features the iconic insectoid mechanical aesthetic associated with Nurgle, the Chaos god of decay.
The illustration was crafted to evoke the grotesque synergy between daemonic machinery and biological rot. The artwork captures the drone's hovering, pestilential presence, adhering to the established visual language of the Warhammer 40,000 miniatures line. Upon release, the set was well-received by fans for successfully translating complex tabletop concepts into functional Magic cards, with the Plague Drone serving as a key thematic element in decks built around swarm and attrition strategies.
