Where it came from
Abundance was included in the Tyranid Swarm commander deck as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander release in 2022. This set represented a major collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop, integrating the grim, industrial aesthetic of the 41st millennium into the mechanics of Magic: The Gathering. The card itself is a reprint of a classic green enchantment, chosen for the set to synergize with the deck’s focus on resource management and hive-mind growth mechanics.
The artwork for this specific printing was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan. In alignment with the set's thematic direction, the illustration captures the bio-organic, predatory nature of the Tyranids, emphasizing the organism's relentless drive to consume and expand. The design serves to bridge the gap between Magic’s traditional fantasy card frames and the visceral, alien imagery iconic to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, aiming to provide a cohesive visual experience for fans of both franchises.
