Where it came from
Playtest Wish originated as a promotional card released during the 2024 Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Las Vegas. It belongs to a specialized category of non-tournament legal cards designed for promotional events, serving as a commemorative keepsake for attendees and participants within the competitive community.
The card features an aesthetic that mirrors the iconic, rough-hewn look of early Magic: The Gathering playtest material, utilizing a simplified design language intended to evoke nostalgia for the game's 1993 development era. By intentionally stripping away the high-production polish of standard modern cards, the designers aimed to celebrate the collaborative and experimental spirit of the game's earliest creators.
