Where it came from
Polymorphist's Jest was released in July 2014 as part of the Magic 2015 Core Set for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card was intended to provide blue-aligned players with a unique removal tool, allowing them to temporarily transform an opponent's dangerous creatures into harmless 1/1 frogs to nullify their threats during combat.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Slawomir Maniak, who utilized a vivid, whimsical style to capture the sudden, magical transformation described by the card's mechanics. Within the competitive landscape of the time, the card was viewed as a niche tactical option, often noted for its flavor and the humorous visual narrative of turning imposing monsters into diminutive amphibians.
