Where it came from
The Powerstones card was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War Jumpstart set, a supplemental product designed to provide a streamlined, ready-to-play experience for Magic: The Gathering players. These cards were created to depict the iconic, magical artifacts central to the lore of the war between brothers Urza and Mishra, serving as the foundational energy source for the conflict's massive mechanical creations.
The art and design for this card were developed to align with the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the set, which pays homage to 1980s fantasy and industrial sci-fi tropes. The card functions as a resource-generating tool within the game's ecosystem, and it was generally well-received by players for its thematic consistency and its mechanical utility in simplifying the resource management required for casting high-cost artifacts.
