Where it came from
The Infantry front card is part of the Jumpstart collection released in conjunction with The Brothers' War expansion of Magic: The Gathering in late 2022. This specific set was designed to facilitate a quick-play experience, allowing players to shuffle two Jumpstart boosters together to form a functional deck. The design reflects the brutal, industrial aesthetic of the Urza versus Mishra conflict, emphasizing the mass-produced, expendable nature of the mechanical armies that defined that era of the game's lore.
The artwork for this card was crafted to evoke the classic aesthetic of mid-century industrial war propaganda and concept art, consistent with the set's retro-futuristic theme. By utilizing a distinct visual style separate from the standard set boosters, the design team aimed to provide players with a clear thematic identity for their Jumpstart packs. Upon release, the set was well-received by players seeking a balanced, low-friction entry point into the complex mechanics of The Brothers' War.
