Pradesh Gypsies

Pradesh Gypsies was originally printed in the Arabian Nights expansion in 1993, the first set released for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Richard Garfield, the set drew heavily on the imagery and themes of the One Thousand and One Nights. The artwork for the card was provided by Quinton Hoover, a prolific illustrator whose distinctive, flowing style became iconic during the early years of the game’s production.

The card was later reprinted in the Fourth Edition base set in 1995, which marked a transitional period for the game as Wizards of the Coast standardized card frames and updated rules text. The card's design, which featured an ability to tap and untap creatures, was representative of the experimental mechanical space explored in the game's infancy. Following its removal from subsequent sets due to shifting creative directions and sensitivity regarding the card's name, Pradesh Gypsies has since become a notable piece of history for collectors of early Magic: The Gathering history.
