What it does
Defender, flying (This creature can't attack, and it can block creatures with flying.)
"This 'standing windstorm' can hold us off indefinitely? Ridiculous!" Saying nothing, she put a pinch of salt on the table. With a bang she clapped her hands, and the salt disappeared, blown away.

Where it came from
Wall of Air was originally introduced in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the early conceptual era of the game where elemental and defensive creatures were core to blue mana's identity. The Fourth Edition printing, released in 1995 as the game's first core set expansion, utilized the classic border and original art to maintain consistency for new players entering the hobby during its rapid mid-nineties expansion.
The card's illustration was crafted by artist Jeff A. Menges, who provided a surrealist, ethereal aesthetic that defined much of the early game's visual language. His design for the Wall of Air sought to capture the abstract concept of a barrier composed of wind, a difficult task that contributed to the creature's iconic status among early players who valued the card's defensive utility and unique thematic presence.
