The Pyre Charger was originally released as part of the Lorwyn set in 2007, designed by the Magic: The Gathering development team to explore the tribal synergies of the Elemental creature type. This specific printing appears in the 2014 Duel Decks Anthology, a curated collection designed to celebrate the history of the game by reissuing classic duels. The card features art by Steve Argyle, whose work on the piece emphasizes the volatile and fiery nature of the Elemental, fitting the aggressive, burn-focused playstyle associated with the Chandra Nalaar deck it represents.

The Duel Decks Anthology set was released by Wizards of the Coast to satisfy collector demand for out-of-print, pre-constructed decks that had become difficult to acquire on the secondary market.
