Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer was originally introduced in the Modern Horizons 2 set in 2021 as a callback to the character Kari Zev’s monkey companion from the Aether Revolt set. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card quickly became a defining force in the Modern and Legacy formats due to its aggressive efficiency and ability to generate card advantage by casting spells from an opponent’s library. The Multiverse Legends version, collector number 86, was released in 2023 as part of a special subset within the March of the Machine set, featuring an ornate, plane-specific showcase frame that pays homage to the character’s origins in the Kaladesh setting.

The artwork for the Multiverse Legends edition retains the energetic, mischievous aesthetic established in the character’s debut. Illustrators sought to capture the monkey’s signature role as a thief, emphasizing his quick movements and the chaotic utility he provides to players on the battlefield. Upon its release, the card received widespread critical acclaim from the Magic: The Gathering community for its high power level and engaging, interactive gameplay, cementing its status as one of the most sought-after red creatures in the history of the game.
