Where it came from
The Ravenous Giant card from the Modern Horizons Art Series was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2019. This series was created as a premium collector's item, designed to showcase the high-quality fantasy artwork featured in the Modern Horizons set without the functional text of a standard Magic: The Gathering card, thereby serving as a dedicated art print on cardstock.
The illustration was crafted by artist Volkan Baga, who is recognized for his evocative and dramatic style within the fantasy genre. In this piece, Baga aimed to capture the raw, overwhelming scale and primal hunger of the giant, utilizing stark lighting and intense composition to ensure the creature felt imposing even within the constrained dimensions of a trading card.
