Urza, Lord High Artificer // Urza, Lord High Artificer

Urza, Lord High Artificer was originally released as a centerpiece of the 2019 Modern Horizons set, marking the first time the legendary figure of Urza appeared as a playable creature card in Magic: The Gathering. As a pivotal character in the game's deep lore, his representation as a powerful artificer was highly anticipated by players, who had spent decades speculating on his eventual debut. This specific art series version highlights the aesthetic design of the card, stripping away the traditional layout to focus entirely on the illustrative work.

The art for this iteration was created by Jesper Ejsing, a longtime contributor to the game known for his atmospheric and character-focused fantasy illustrations. Ejsing sought to capture the immense, almost mechanical scale of Urza’s influence, emphasizing his role as a master of machinery and artifact creation. Upon its release, the card was widely received as a defining force in high-level competitive formats, and the art series prints became sought-after pieces for those looking to display the game's visual artistry outside of a standard deck.
