Where it came from
Reconnaissance Mission, card number 59 in the 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 trading card set, was released by Impel Marketing. This seminal set was produced during a period of significant growth for the comic book industry, aiming to provide a comprehensive visual archive of the Marvel pantheon. It served as an entry point for a new generation of collectors who were interested in the lore and character dynamics of the era, rather than just the comic books themselves.
The design of the set featured clean, border-heavy layouts with prominent character art and brief, accessible dossiers on the reverse side. The card captures the tactical essence of the Marvel Universe, emphasizing the intelligence-gathering operations central to many superhero storylines. The series remains well-regarded by collectors for its role in establishing the standard format for mass-market trading card sets throughout the 1990s.
