Reflecting Pool

Reflecting Pool was originally introduced in the Tempest expansion in 1997, but the version featured here is the reprint from the 2008 Shadowmoor set. The card was designed to be a powerful land that synergizes with diverse mana bases, functioning as a utilitarian tool that rewards players for controlling lands capable of producing multiple colors. Its inclusion in Shadowmoor allowed it to integrate into the set's focus on hybrid mana mechanics, providing much-needed stability for complex, multi-colored decks of the era.

The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by Steven Belledin, who sought to capture the ethereal, mirror-like quality suggested by the card's name. By focusing on a calm, reflective surface that pulls light and color from its surroundings, the illustration visually reinforces the card's mechanical ability to adapt to the player's specific mana needs. The design was well-received by the competitive community for its utility, and it remains a staple in various constructed formats to this day.
