Where it came from
Relentless Pursuit is an uncommon sorcery card released in early 2020 as part of the Theros Beyond Death expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set centers on the Greek mythology-inspired plane of Theros, specifically focusing on the realm of the dead and the struggle to escape the Underworld. Mechanically, the card reflects the set's graveyard-centric themes, allowing players to filter through their library for creatures or land cards, which emphasizes the theme of searching for resources while traversing the afterlife.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a stark, monochromatic aesthetic to convey the somber, relentless tone of the journey through the Underworld. By focusing on a silhouette-driven composition, the art captures the feeling of a soul being pulled or drawn toward a destination. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional utility piece within limited formats, appreciated by players for its ability to provide card selection while feeding the graveyard for late-game synergy.
