Provenance

Where it came from

Remodel was released in 2004 as part of Unhinged, the second silver-bordered parody set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Unlike standard expansions, Unhinged was designed specifically to push the boundaries of game rules through humor and unconventional mechanics, providing a lighthearted break from the complex lore of competitive play.

The card was illustrated by Ron Spencer, a prolific artist known for his distinctively gritty and macabre style in early Magic sets. For this piece, Spencer leaned into the set's comedic premise by depicting a literal, chaotic renovation project, reflecting the card's mechanical effect which allows players to exchange the abilities of permanents on the battlefield.
