Where it came from
Resistance Squad was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set for Magic: The Gathering. The set centers on the gothic horror themes of the Innistrad plane, specifically focusing on a vampire-themed wedding. This card represents the human resistance forces attempting to survive the encroaching darkness and the overwhelming power of the vampire elite during this tumultuous period.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the grit and coordinated effort of the human survivors. The design reflects the 'coven' and 'training' mechanical motifs prevalent in the set, emphasizing themes of camaraderie and shared defense. It was received by players as a functional utility creature, valued for its ability to provide card advantage in white-aligned creature-heavy decks within the Limited play environment.
