Where it came from
Ritual of Hope was released in September 2021 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. This set returned players to the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad, focusing on themes of light versus darkness, the balance of nature, and the encroaching supernatural threats haunting the human survivors. The card was designed as an uncommon white spell meant to reflect the communal efforts of the plane's inhabitants to ward off the encroaching night.
The artwork was created by illustrator Fajareka Setiawan, who utilized a warm, luminous color palette to contrast the desperate atmosphere of the setting. The illustration depicts a group of villagers gathering to perform a protective rite, effectively conveying the mechanics of the card, which bolsters the strength of a player's creatures. It was received by the player base as a functional utility card within the Limited format, praised for its thematic alignment with the set's cycle of hope and perseverance.
