Rogue's Passage

Rogue's Passage was first introduced in the Magic: The Gathering Commander 2011 product, designed to provide players with a repeatable way to grant unblockability to a single creature. The card functions as a utility land, intentionally crafted to act as a mana sink that rewards players for building a board state focused on a singular, powerful threat. By including it in later sets like Commander 2020, Wizards of the Coast maintained its status as a staple for aggressive or voltron-style decks, where ensuring a commander makes contact with an opponent is vital to victory.

The art for the original and subsequent reprints often depicts a shadowy, narrow alleyway, visually reinforcing the mechanic of sneaking a creature past enemy defenses. The design philosophy behind this card centers on the tension between spending mana to develop one's resources and spending it to bypass defensive barriers. It has been well-received by the player base for its simplicity and the interesting decision-making it creates during the mid-to-late stages of a Commander game.
