Roiling Dragonstorm // Roiling Dragonstorm

Roiling Dragonstorm was released as part of the Art Series for the Magic: The Gathering set Tarkir: Dragonstorm. These cards were introduced as a dedicated sub-collection within the set, designed specifically to showcase the full-frame illustrations commissioned for the expansion. The series emerged from a broader initiative by Wizards of the Coast to highlight the creative work of their illustrators, moving away from the standard card layout to allow the artwork to occupy the entirety of the front side of the card.

The illustration for this piece captures the chaotic, high-fantasy aesthetic central to the Tarkir setting, focusing on the volatile dragon-infused storms that define the region's lore. The art was commissioned to emphasize the intense scale and elemental power of the world, utilizing a dramatic composition intended to be viewed as a standalone piece of concept art. Upon release, these cards were well-received by collectors who prioritized visual art over gameplay utility, as they provided an accessible way to own large-format prints of the game's evolving visual identity.
