Smile at Death // Smile at Death

Smile at Death was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Art Series, specifically within the Tarkir: Dragonstorm collection. This series was designed to showcase the high-fantasy illustrations from the game in a format that prioritizes the visual storytelling of the artists. By stripping away traditional game text and frame elements, the series provides a dedicated canvas to highlight the intricate world-building of the Tarkir plane, a setting defined by its shifting timelines and dragon-centric mythology.

The artwork featured on this card is a testament to the evocative, dramatic style synonymous with modern fantasy illustration. It captures the tension between the mortal inhabitants of the plane and the draconic entities that dominate its history. The piece was created to reflect the grim, atmospheric tone of the Dragonstorm storyline, where characters often face existential threats with stoic resolve. The card remains a sought-after piece for collectors who appreciate the technical draftsmanship and conceptual depth brought to the game by its recurring artistic contributors.
