Rona, Herald of Invasion // Rona, Herald of Invasion

Rona, Herald of Invasion appears as part of the March of the Machine Art Series, a collection of cards released by Wizards of the Coast in 2023. This series was designed to showcase the intricate illustrations from the March of the Machine set, which depicted the climactic conclusion of the multi-year Phyrexian arc in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. By stripping away the game mechanics and borders, these cards function primarily as high-quality artistic prints intended for collectors who appreciate the visual narrative of the game.

The artwork for this piece was illustrated by Antonio José Manzanedo, a prolific contributor to the game's aesthetic identity. Manzanedo’s vision for this iteration of Rona emphasizes her transformation and integration into the Phyrexian collective, capturing a balance of human features and biomechanical horror. Within the community, the Art Series cards are noted for their clean presentation, serving as a dedicated medium for showcasing the artists' skill in conceptualizing the high-stakes fantasy world of the Phyrexian invasion.
