Where it came from
Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds was introduced as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The card represents a reimagining of the character Ghired, Conclave Exile, who was originally introduced in the 2019 Commander set, reaching a new frontier setting that blends traditional fantasy tropes with a Western aesthetic. The design reflects the character's core identity as a master of animal companions, adapted here to interact with the set's token-copying mechanics.
The artwork for this iteration was created by artist Livia Prima, who has contributed extensively to the visual language of the game. Her design captures Ghired's command over his beasts, utilizing the vibrant, earth-toned palette synonymous with the Naya shard's color identity. Upon release, the card was received favorably by the Commander community for its strategic depth and ability to scale effectively in multiplayer environments, serving as a prominent centerpiece for creature-focused strategies.
