Roxi, Publicist to the Stars

Roxi, Publicist to the Stars was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast’s 'Un-' series of silver-bordered and acorn-stamped Magic: The Gathering cards. These sets are designed to push the boundaries of standard gameplay rules through humorous mechanics, often parodying the tropes of the game’s own universe. Roxi was created to embody the chaotic, high-stakes nature of celebrity management, utilizing a mechanics-focused design that allows players to 'promote' other cards within their collection during a game.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who leaned into the retro-futuristic, carnival-themed aesthetic that defines the Unfinity set. By depicting Roxi as a glamorous, bustling agent in a sci-fi setting, the design team aimed to bridge the gap between Magic’s traditional fantasy roots and the campy, interstellar circus theme of the set. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its unconventional approach to interacting with the game’s board state, fitting firmly into the tradition of 'silver-border' cards meant for casual, laughter-filled play environments rather than professional tournaments.
