Where it came from
Saiba Trespassers was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The set marked a return to the plane of Kamigawa, reimagining its traditional lore through a vibrant, futuristic cyberpunk aesthetic. As a blue-aligned creature card, it was designed to function within the set's mechanical themes of graveyard interaction and ninjutsu, reflecting the high-tech infiltrators inhabiting the sprawling metropolis of Towashi.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the digital, stealth-oriented nature of the characters. The design process focused on blending the original Japanese-inspired mythology of the plane with modern neon motifs, resulting in a visual style that emphasizes sleek armor and holographic elements. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its versatility and its thematic integration into the neon-drenched atmosphere of the set.
