Where it came from
Sakashima's Student originated as a card in the Magic: The Gathering Commander 2011 set, serving as a unique blue clone creature that mimics the ninjutsu mechanic. It was designed to provide players with a versatile way to replicate powerful creatures on the battlefield, reflecting the shapeshifting lore of Kamigawa. The card quickly became a staple for players utilizing rogue and ninja-themed decks due to its ability to enter the battlefield as a copy of another creature while returning a ninja to the hand.
The Secret Lair version, identified by collector number 2355, was released as part of a specialized promotional drop. This particular iteration featured stylized, avant-garde artistic direction intended to offer a distinct aesthetic departure from the original expansion's art style. These Secret Lair releases are curated for collectors who appreciate thematic artistic variations and have been widely received as premium aesthetic updates to established game mechanics.
