Sakura-Tribe Elder

Sakura-Tribe Elder was originally introduced in the 2004 Magic: The Gathering set Champions of Kamigawa. Designed as a common creature with a sacrifice ability to fetch land, it became a staple in various formats due to its efficiency in ramping mana and serving as a chump blocker. The card features art by Adam Rex, whose illustration depicts the serpentine, nature-attuned aesthetic that defined the Kamigawa plane’s folklore-inspired visuals.

The version included in Mystery Booster 2 reflects the game's evolving archival practices, serving as both a functional reprint and a nod to the enduring utility of the original design. By repackaging older, iconic utility creatures, the set allows contemporary players to access essential deck-building tools while celebrating the legacy of the Kamigawa era. The card remains a quintessential example of how a simple, well-balanced ability can maintain relevance across two decades of play.
