Where it came from
Reset was originally printed in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering set Legends. Designed by Steve Conard, the card functions as an instant that effectively restarts the game turn, a mechanic intended to create high-impact tactical shifts during gameplay. Due to its powerful and somewhat disruptive interaction with game rules, it was eventually placed on the Reserved List, ensuring it would not be reprinted in traditional sets, which elevated its status among long-term collectors.
The version included in Mystery Booster 2, numbered 170, serves as a specialized reprint within a set designed to showcase cards from the history of Magic: The Gathering. Mystery Booster 2 is curated to provide a unique drafting experience, often featuring cards with historical significance or unique frame treatments. The inclusion of Reset in this collection allows players and collectors to access a piece of the game's early design philosophy, maintaining the original artwork and text style that defined the Legends era.
