Where it came from
Sami, Wildcat Captain was released as part of the Edge of Eternities expansion for the trading card game Sorcery: Contested Realm. This specific iteration is a promotional card, issued to showcase the game's unique hand-drawn aesthetic, which emphasizes a return to the classic, tactile fantasy art styles of the 1990s. The card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the Wildcat faction, reflecting the game's design philosophy of blending strategic depth with evocative, non-digital illustration.
The artwork was commissioned to align with the game's vision of a 'contested realm' where mana and creature types interact within a grid-based spatial system. By utilizing traditional artistic techniques, the creators sought to differentiate the visual language of Sorcery from more modern, digitally polished alternatives. Upon release, the promotional card was well-received by the community, primarily valued for its distinct visual style and its role as a playable leader within the game's evolving meta.
