Where it came from
Sanctifier en-Vec was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed specifically for the Modern format, intended to introduce powerful cards directly into the ecosystem without requiring them to pass through a Standard-legal release. This card draws upon the lore of the en-Vec, a group of warriors from the Rath plane, visually reimagining them with the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of contemporary Magic sets.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who employed a dynamic, heroic composition to reflect the character's role as a defensive cleric. The design focuses on the mechanics of exile and graveyard hate, positioning the card as a technical sideboard piece against decks that rely on recursive graveyard strategies. Upon its release, it was widely praised by the competitive community for its efficiency and its impact on the Modern meta, quickly becoming a staple in white-based control and aggressive strategies.
