Where it came from
Sanctifier en-Vec was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed specifically for the Modern format, aiming to introduce powerful cards that could interact with existing strategies rather than adhering to the constraints of a standard-legal release. This card serves as a targeted hate-bear, intended to disrupt graveyard-reliant decks while providing players with a resilient white creature capable of exiling specific threats upon entry.
The illustration was crafted by artist Volkan Baga, who utilized a regal, focused aesthetic to depict the en-Vec character. Baga’s work captures the themes of sanctity and vigilance common to the White mana color identity. Upon its release, the card was widely received by competitive players as a staple for sideboards in the Modern and Legacy formats, prized for its specific utility against graveyard-based strategies and its high efficiency as a two-mana permanent.
