Where it came from
Sanctifier en-Vec was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set, a supplemental Magic: The Gathering product designed specifically to introduce new cards directly into the Modern format. The set focused on expanding the mechanical depth and nostalgic callbacks for long-time players, with this card serving as a powerful graveyard-interaction piece tailored for competitive play environments.
The card was illustrated by artist Wisnu Tan, who rendered the character within the established visual framework of the 'en-Vec' faction from the Magic multiverse. The design emphasizes the character's role as a protector through a rigid, armored aesthetic, reflecting the card's mechanical function of shielding players from graveyard-reliant strategies. It was well-received by the tournament community upon release for its efficiency and impact on the Modern metagame.
