Sanctuary Raptor

Sanctuary Raptor was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed specifically for the Modern format, aiming to introduce cards that injected new mechanics and synergies into the game without requiring them to pass through the standard rotation of competitive legality. The Raptor serves as a common-rarity creature intended to support draft environments and low-cost aggressive strategies, showcasing the set's focus on complex board states and tribal themes.

The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, an artist whose style frequently leans into vivid color palettes and dynamic creature anatomy. His design for the Raptor emphasizes the prehistoric, avian aesthetics central to the set's creature design, balancing a clear mechanical utility with the cohesive art direction of the plane of Dominaria, which often serves as a thematic backdrop for such supplemental products. The card was generally well-received by players for its efficiency in limited play and its distinct visual character.
