Where it came from
Sarkhan's Resolve is a card from the Magic: The Gathering set Tarkir: Dragonstorm. This set serves as a narrative evolution of the Tarkir plane, focusing on the draconic themes established in earlier sets like Khans of Tarkir and Dragons of Tarkir. The card was designed as part of the broader game mechanics introduced to represent the dragon-centric culture and magical affinity of the plane's inhabitants, specifically the followers of the planeswalker Sarkhan Vol.
The artwork for this card was commissioned to reflect the thematic intensity of the set, emphasizing the transformation and power associated with dragon magic. Like much of the visual direction for the Tarkir sets, the design team aimed to balance the rugged, warlord-inspired aesthetic of the plane with the soaring, mythical majesty of its dragons. It was received by players as a functional piece of the set's mechanical identity, contributing to the aggressive playstyles encouraged by the Dragonstorm era.
