Where it came from
Sarkhan's Unsealing was introduced as part of the Jumpstart set released in 2020. This set was designed to facilitate a specific, streamlined play experience where players combine two semi-randomized packs to form a deck, bypassing the traditional deck-building process. The card itself serves as a build-around enchantment for red decks, rewarding players for casting large creature spells with high mana costs by triggering powerful effects.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Daarken, known for a long tenure contributing to the game's dark and visceral aesthetic. The illustration depicts the planeswalker Sarkhan Vol amidst a turbulent, draconic event, reflecting his deep connection to dragons and his tendency to reshape reality. Upon release, the card was well-received by players in the Commander format, where its ability to board-wipe or provide card advantage when playing heavy-hitting creatures remains a staple strategy.
